Tom Byrnes
Bio
Tom Byrnes is a trial lawyer with over 20 years of experience specializing in complex trials and investigations. His dedication to each case and confidence in the courtroom achieves winning results for clients. His practice focuses on representing victims and their families in civil litigation and injury law, including catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases.
As a trial prosecutor he developed expertise handling a wide variety of criminal cases including homicides, sexual assaults, drug trafficking, and financial crimes. He worked closely with victims impacted by serious injuries, and admired the courage and resilience they showed to fight for justice in the criminal justice system. As the Assistant District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, he led trial teams and managed day-to-day operations for the office of over 250 employees in Colorado’s largest district.
Tom is a U.S. Navy and Iraq War veteran who served on active duty in the JAG Corps as a Staff Judge Advocate, defense counsel, Special Assistant United States Attorney, and prosecutor. He continues to serve as a Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserves, where he worked in litigation and investigative roles, international and operational law positions, and he is currently a certified military judge.
Tom earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Spanish from Franciscan University in Steubenville, OH, and his law degree from the Ave Maria School of Law in Ann Arbor, MI. Tom and his wife Darci live with their family in Lakewood, CO.
